- In this paper, the throughput-delay performance of an unslotted channel load sensing protocol (CLSP)/direct-sequence-code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) packet radio network (PRN) with diversity combining techniques and adaptive service rates over Nakagami-m fading channels have been analyzed. A novel mechanism, the adaptive service rate, which adjusts service rates according to the Doppler frequency and the arrival rate, has been proposed for augmenting the system performance, thereby assuaging the system utilization. Furthermore, in a mobile radio propagation environment, the performance degradation occurs owing to transmission and link errors resulting from packet collisions, noise, fading and shadowing. Therefore, the diversity reception operating in frequency-selective DS-CDMA fading channels is also considered for alleviating the impact of deep fades to protect packet transmissions.
